On October 11, in collaboration with @vojasadventures and @sasanka74, I set out for a backcountry paddle-camping trip at Assateague Island National Seashore. However, due to the government shutdown, we couldn’t obtain a camping permit. As a backup plan, we decided to camp on the beach and paddle during the day.
Everything went smoothly until a coastal storm alert was issued, and we were advised to vacate the campground for safety reasons. While we couldn’t spend the night on the beach as planned, we still had an incredible time paddling across the bay, encountering wild horses up close to our boats, and sharing dinner under stormy skies.
No matter how seasoned an outdoorsman you are, it’s important to respect Mother Nature and take weather alerts seriously. It was the right call to pack up and leave in time.
🎥 A video of this trip will be posted soon on our YouTube channel — stay tuned!
